buddy of mine used tanglefoot product on a solo cup and attaches it to a hat

OK, so what's with the solo cup?
Is it that the flies are attracted to the highest part of the victim?
And/or do you just need a convenient place to put the tape?
Does the color of the cup matter?

From what I’ve read, the flies are attracted to movement, and the color blue. The brighter the blue the better. Not sure about the highest part of the victim, but it seem like they are.

Yes they always go to the highest persons head. I always invited a tall person along when going to the land during deer fly season. :rotflmao:

Back in my little league days playing right field... when the gnats were thick, you'd raise your arm above your head and they'd swarm your hand instead of your face. That was the plan anyway.
I didn't know if deer flies did the same thing.

But they both bite: "Both deer flies and horse flies bite with scissor-like mouthparts that cut into skin, causing blood flow which the flies lap up. Because of this relatively crude means of obtaining blood, the bites can be painful."

I don’t know why, but I’ve never seen the deer flies so bad. At the farm or the lake place you can’t go outside without getting attacked.
I bought some of those patches the forest service uses, but they don’t work very well. I also bought a head net.

Head net will help the face and neck but they can bit through your cloths. Best just stay out of the woods for a month or so.

I did something like that to a hat one time to see if it works. Sure did. I was cutting the grass for the day and when it was over the tape was full of them. Not bothered much. Had some spray on around my neck and stuff also. Was up by deer camp last week. Man where they bad. Both horse and deer fly's. Didn't even want to get out of the truck when I parked. My brother and I sprayed the hell on ourselves and it seemed to help. Had to shoot my 45 and had no problems. I think if I taped my hat up that day it would have been covered. That method does work. good luck.

Every time I go get the mail at this time of year, I'm swinging a bad-mitten racket past my head...you'd be surprised at how many you can whack.....and the funny looks you get as people pass by is priceless. :azn:
But, it does work!
