Have you guys used these?
I have one on my 90 hp Merc and never really noticed any change in getting on plain sooner..
BUT, I bought a new 15hp for my 14ft river rat boat and I'm having trouble getting it up on plane with just me in the stern. If I have someone in the front, or and extra 100 pounds of junk, I plane out just fine.
I'm thinking about putting one on this small motor....will it help?

I had one on my old boat that had a 25 horse. I don't recall anything significant that stands out weather it was worth it or not!!!!! :scratch: :scratch: :scratch:

When by yourself have you tried setting the motor trim all the way in on the last trim hole?

I saw tests on those in Walleye/Boats mag tech tests...said they created significant drag on smaller engines. A lot depends on hull and weight disbursement. (As you already know)
Thats what determines how soon yer boat planes out under power....

I have one on my 40, using that and the trim really helps plane out the boat... and I have a hand tiller set up...

I have had them on a few boats. Usually to remedy too small of a motor. I do think they help. Still have to gun it to get some water flowing to make it work. Then you can back off once you are up on plane.

We had 1 on an old glass boat that only had a 35HP on it, couldn't really tell that it helped or not IMO. :confused:

I just went back to read some tech columns and reviews on this.....seems they feel it DOES provide a boost and helps. I stand corrected! :bow: Also info on finding ones that attach without drilling thru yer plate, there's a few that have tight holding lockdown clips that stated work well.....

The one you posted is to big for my motor Rebbs....but, they do have smaller ones available.
I REALLY don't want to drill holes in my new motor, but already bought one that requires holes (it has not been delivered yet)
I think I'll buy one of these first (they're not that expensive) and if it don't work...then I'll drill holes.

Some boats benefit from a wedge on the transom to give a little more negative trim for starting out. Of course that is for boats with power trim mostly.

Ok....the bad news.... and the bad news.....
I purchased a stingray hydrofoil, a SEsport hydrofoil and a clamp (so I didn't have to drill holes)
NONE, of which will work with my new Yamaha boat motor (of course they didn't list it because the design is to new)
There is a water intake on the bottom of the fin of the lower unit that is blocking the "no drill clamp" from being used. If I cut it to make it fit around this intake, it would render it useless because it would spread a part.
If I skipped the clamp plate, and decided to drill, I would drill into that intake plate. Unless I clamp the foil in a Bridgeport and elongate the slot, it won't work on either hydrofoil. :banghead:

I must add, the bolt pattern on both hydrofoils is the exact same. So, it might be a universal pattern, because they come from 2 different companies. Oooorrrrrr.... it's a coincidence.... :scratch:

I am not an expert but I have had a few boats with the hydrofoil on them and seemed to work ok. I have not heard of anyone putting one on a motor that small before.

Update on this thread....
The hydro foil that I purchased, wouldn't fit the 15hp. (And I didn't want to drill holes in my new motor)
So......this spring, I added a subfloor & a pedestal.
Under the floor, (I had an old weight set) and put the dumbbells under the floor.
23 mph, and no more bow hopping! :laugh:
