Purchase Camp Ripley archery permits in August

Hunters who want to participate in the archery deer hunts at Camp Ripley near Little Falls will be able to purchase permits without entering their names in a lottery. Hunt permits will go on sale starting at noon on Friday, Aug. 28. The dates for this year’s event at Camp Ripley are Oct. 15-16 and Oct. 31-Nov. 1.

For 2020, the DNR has changed the process and timeline to apply to the hunts due to the ongoing uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic. Not having a lottery allows the hunt to be quickly canceled in the event such a decision would be necessary. In August, hunters will be able to find hunt rules and details about how to participate in the hunt.

I know that ain't your logic, HD, but that makes no sense to me.  They could cancel it just as easily with or without a lottery.

I haven't been paying attention to the lottery the past few years, but haven't they been letting so many folks hunt that pretty much everyone who enters, gets in.  In 2018 surplus permits were available.

It used to be that Ripley was a draw when there were few permits and you had a good chance of getting a trophy buck.  I don't know what happened first, adding more permits or the reduce numbers of trophy bucks, but something changed, and it isn't the draw that it used to be.

Yup, I didn't write it....it came from a MN DNR email.

I quit hunting Ripley ten years ago when a hunter took a shot at a deer and missed....the deer had run between us, and his arrow stuck in a tree about a foot above my head.  :surrender:

I hope you gave that yahoo an earful.

I was there once, and it wasn't my cup of tea.
