Title: Pickled Eggs
Post by: HD on September 09/21/20, 04:57:22 PM
Have any of you ate pickled eggs?
I remember going to some off the wall small dive bars, and they always had the pickled eggs sitting in a jar on the back shelf next to the whiskey.....anybody ever ate those?

I was on amazon and saw these....and they sparked my interest....would they be any good?

Oh ya have eaten many of both.  We always laughed when the jar was close to empty and we ate the rest of them.  Wondered how long they had been there.  Same with gizzards.

I’ve never had a pickled egg that I liked, and was always amazed at how many people like them. The only pickled egg that I was able to eat are the Amish mustard eggs. And even those aren’t that good. Unfortunately the director of our business unit loved to make pickle eggs and would bring them to work. He would walk around offering them to everyone. If you wanted to suck up you had to eat one.

I picked up a jar of smoked pickled eggs from the big yellow candy store last fall!

I tried the smoke then pickle eggs here but to me its one or the other. Pickle farmer shared a real good recipe a couple of years ago. I believe it was a V8 base.

Haven't had the pleasure of eating a pickled egg that I remember anyway. Have eaten many pickled turkey gizzards tho. Must not be going to the right bars.

The same Gourmet Horse Dovres section Dotch.  LOL  Both excellent snacks!!!  I love them both!!!  I bet a buddy that he couldn't drink two beer mugs of Pickled Turkey Gizzard juice many years ago.  He drank the two mugs and I let him have a shot of peppermint schnapps.  He had to keep it down for 15 minutes.  I think the Schnapps helped him out.  He did call in sick from work the next day and had some ugly colon issues for a day or two.   :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Speaking of colon issues. A couple of pickeled eggs along with seven or eight glasses of tap beer makes for some room clearing flatuance (farts). Even seen it clear out a duck blind a time or two.  :sleazy:

Combined with sauerkraut, I'm pretty sure those are the ingredients they used to make the old weedkiller Eradicane...  :happy1:

I tried the smoke then pickle eggs here but to me its one or the other. Pickle farmer shared a real good recipe a couple of years ago. I believe it was a V8 base.

1 gallon pickle jar
24 boiled eggs
1 12oz can of V8 juice
1/2 cup Louisiana hot sauce
1/3 cup salt ( more or less for your taste)
6 Jalapeño sliced
6 sweet hot Banana peppers. Sliced
1 large onion sliced
1/4 cup sugar
2 quarts white vinegar
1/8 cup dill seed

Bring Vinegar,salt,sugar,V8 and hot sauce to a boil in 5 quart sauce pan. Turn off heat immediately when mix starts to boil. Add the rest of the solid ingredients to the hot liquid. Let sit about 15-20 minutes. Layer gallon jar one layer at a time adding pickling mixture as you fill jar. Make sure to get all the solids from the liquid mixture in the canning jar by the time you fill jar with the last egg. Let sit In refrigerator for 2 week. Down the hatch!!! 😋

Have you ever tried this recipe for gizzards rather than eggs?    I might have to give it a shot.  I have a surplus of turkey gizzards in the freezer.
