I was going through some traps my brother-in-law gave me years ago and found this. What is it used for?

I'd bet dakids could tell you. :happy1: I never seen anything like it. :scratch: other than it looks like something that should be hanging in hayslips corner in Talmoon. :scratch: :doah:

A meat hook for butchering maybe?  Or for skinning critters?

I was wondering that too, but in all the years I was in those plants I never seen a hook set up like that..  but still???

I am hoping someone knows what those hooks are.  They look familiar.  Here is a long shot.  Could it be something to hang horse gear on?  Like the old time harnesses and that stuff?

I have seen similar in stainless steel that were used for hanging pots & pans in commercial kitchens. It slips over a thin solid rail.

I'm sure it could be used for hanging meat also but not being stainless steel is throwing me off.

that is a good thought too Db, and back in the day they were not all SS.  they had galvanized and other materials...

It has not very sharp ground point edges like you would think for meat.  OR just crude points if used for that.

Kinda reminds me of when those too gumbas went fishing for the shark off the dock using a chuck roast in Jaws.

It looks like MN RACK ATTACK is correct.
I put it on a trapping forum. They said that it's for a "drag set". So instead of you anchoring your trap to a stake, you attach this. When the animal gets snapped, it can leave the area undisturbed for other traps to snap other critters. Sooner or later, the hooks get dug into something and anchor. Kinda like tracking Glenn's gut shot deer. Also, I was told that it reduces pull outs because it's not securely anchored in the ground.
