Title: Minnesota DNR News

For Immediate Release: :Hunter:

Nov. 5, 2020

 :coffee: ,,,,
Temporary off-highway vehicle restrictions begin with firearms deer opener

 :drillsergeant: ......
Off-highway vehicles for recreational use will be restricted in some areas during the Minnesota firearms deer hunting season. :tut:

The restrictions, which apply to state forest trails and access routes but not to state forest roads, aim to protect recreational riders from potentially unsafe riding conditions and to minimize conflicts training-087 between deer hunters and recreational riders who may inadvertently disturb them.

The 2020 riding season has seen many new OHV enthusiasts hitting the trails for the first time, and many of them may not be familiar with these longstanding temporary closures, said Bruce Lawrence, recreational vehicle coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Enforcement Division. If you know someone who's new to riding this year, we encourage you to share this information with them.

Vehicles affected by the restrictions include all-terrain vehicles, off-highway motorcycles and registered off-road vehicles such as four-wheel drive trucks that are not being used in conjunction with deer hunting by a licensed deer hunter.

Licensed deer hunters may still use these routes in conjunction with their hunting activity:
•Before legal shooting time.
•From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
•After legal shooting hours
.

Effective dates of the recreational riding restrictions are:
•7-22 for the northeastern Minnesota 100 Series deer season.
•7-15 for the Minnesota 200 Series deer season.

Because recreational OHV trails located in southeastern Minnesota close by Nov. 1 each year, no additional OHV riding restrictions are necessary in that part of the state.

While many recreational OHV riders have voluntarily opted not to ride forest trails during deer hunting and small-game seasons, recreational OHV riding has become a year-round sport for many. DNR officials remind everyone who visits Minnesota's state forests this fall to put safety first. :tut:

For more information, visit the OHV closures page for specific trail closure information; the 2020 deer season map online; or contact the DNR Information Center at info.dnr@state.mn.us or call 888-646-6367 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

If you buy a fishing license online they don't even mail it to you. You have to print them out yourself.

I prefer to go to the ELS agent for fishing license anyway. Then they are waterproof. I put my sportsman license in my wallet and the wife's goes in the tackle box. That way it is always with us.

Glenn printers are cheap (it's the ink they clobber you on) for the price of 20 cases (about $100) of that stuff you call beer you can buy a new printer. Either that or tell momma to get a part time job.  :bonk:

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: I know,  just haven't felt the absolute need quite yet but it's on the need to buy list. Even if we had one I wouldn't buy my license on line.

it m not sure. Never looked into it. When I figure the price of the license by the amount of hours I spend hunting or fishing it's pretty minimal fee. It's the damn beer that's spendy. :rotflmao:

Roony, I think it's younger than that. my mom is 84 and think hers is free, she just needs to get it renewed somehow???🤔

so.........i get a weekly email from the DNR, regarding CO reports. lately in the grand rapids reports i see them checking illegal birch harvest??

anyone know what exactly they are harvesting????? is it the bark????? and what the illegal activity would be??? there used to be a gut up hwy 6 by the bigfork river that made birch bark canoes?????

seems like Mr Fairbanks and his dog get quite busy helping other agencies track down troublemakers!!!

i also like to keep an eye on the st cloud area.........and those guys up on da border!!! :happy1: :rotflmao:

Lee Lee Lee, how good to hear from you.  I hope life is good for youse.  LOL  We all miss you.  Have a great day. X5   So I have a copy of the DNR regs book.  I just noticed in the top of the cover it says what nationalities you can get it in and one was Karen.  I laughed and asked the wife why there is an edition for wacked out ladies.  LOL  Thankfully she has a great sense of humor.  She said that is legit.  I could look it up but wanted to let you all know.  LOL OK I will look it up and report back.

Ok did my due diligence.  Karen is the language of Myanmar, formerly Burma.  The language has been around for a couple thousand years.

 I did ask if it was just like gathering pine boughs in the fall, mainly natives doing it, & she said yes it was. She also said that a lot of the birch actually got sent all the way to Sweden too. I had no idea on the permits & regs though, but it does make sense that they couldn't just have anybody & everybody going anywhere & everywhere doing it either.

i new they needed a permit to cut boughs in the fall........see alot of it around the cabin....but wonder how many actually get a permit.

i've ventured ALOT  of places up there in the woods in my years and can tell where that guy that made  canoes has been....and its all friggin over.......but its the same pattern on the tree. and there all still alive. but i havent see anything freash, so wonder iffin he doesn't do it anymore?

good thing those recent bird feeder thing i just made, the birch came from the firewood pile......and was from our property and from a dead tree!! :happy1:

Did they make it a State Aid road?  OR remove it from being state aid?  Up here every County road under the number 50 is a State Aid road.  Document any work we did on those roads and time spent for the state aid.  Huge help in paying for the work.

Efficiency in the keeping track of everything.  So three digits are gravel or etc.  Makes sense.  I had to keep track of every hour of mowing on every road I was on in a day and sometimes that may have been 10 or 12 different roads.  Hauling gravel had to keep track of each load on each road too just like dozing, excavating, filling trucks, sweeping, replacing culverts etc.    If you are curious ask your buddy if all state aid roads are under 50.  That is probably a state wide thing.   Counties can switch road numbers to get more state aid on certain roads.  I really enjoyed working with the highway guys.

A year ago when we had the meeting about our roads the ole county commissioner said that all roads under 50 are state aid highways.
