Post by: Steve-o on January 01/10/22, 11:52:33 AM
Yeah, if you got ball skills, it would be pretty tempting to play for Alabama and have a direct pipeline to the NFL.

Still, I can think of a bunch of other college head coaches I'd rather play for than Saban.  But for many of those perennial blue chip programs it probably doesn't matter - especially when the Head Coach is more of a CEO than coach.

In my opinion the game was over when Alabama lost the second wide receiver. Then they had to settle for all the first half field goals. No excuses, Georgia was better last night.

Having 4 TO's & 7 penalties were a little too much to overcome being down 24-0. They still had 2 possesions in the last 3:30 & only down 1 score,  but couldn't get it done. :pouty:

Unless they invent the fountain of youth with Grain Belt Premium i'll never live to see it. I'm 67 years old. They have been mediocre at best for about 65 of those years. Holtz brought a feel of competence otherwise it's fair coaches getting out recruited and ran over by Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State. Even Wisconsin and Iowa have taken turns pounding them. I would like to see them good but common sense and history tells me it's a long shot at best.

 It was pretty much over early, with LSU's QB reinjuring his ankle in the 1st few possessions & then the TD on the blocked FG which both helped Georgia to the 35-10 1/2 time lead. Geogia looks tough & will probably be favored to win the CFP. I think Georgia/Michigan would be a good matchup for the CFP final.

Well you still need a quarterback in this league, unless you are Iowa. Somebody (maybe all of them) got outcoached. Was it the defensive coordinator? The offensive coordinator? All though it seemed they put up enough points at home. Was it the head coach who seems to have more hype than ability?

In any event you wouldn't expect to lose at home to a ordinary Illinois team. Kinda takes the luster off of beating a team without a quarterback.    :doah:

Iowa's problem is the same this year as Minnesota's....

Lousy QB. We kicked ours into the portal and won the bowl game with the backup.

Will Iowa get rid of theirs?

I thought Wisconsin acquitted themselves very well against LSU.  Didn't win, but played em close to the end.

Between Harbaugh and Saban, I couldn't find a team I could root for in the first semi-final game.  There are WAY too many prima donna prigs as college football head coaches.

It ain't no big deal, but case in point...

Jim Harbaugh, Nick Saban Facing Criticism Over 'Disrespectful' Pregame Decision (https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/jim-harbaugh-nick-saban-facing-criticism-over-disrespectful-pregame-decision/ar-AA1mknSV?ocid=entnewsntp&pc=U531&cvid=aceea100d77a480380f5227a829c8c52&ei=10)

According to the ESPN broadcast, Saban and Harbaugh did not shake each other's hands before the game began. Pregame handshakes are pretty commonplace in college football.

No big Harbaugh fan here either but I'm glad they won , at least they're BIG 10.

Yes, and no.  These coaches both know what they are doing.  They are basically stirring the pot - because college football is ALL about the coaches, don't cha know.

A $125 mil/10 yr deal was offered to him on Xmas Eve. There is a 1 year no NFL clause, however. https://www.nfl.com/news/jim-harbaugh-weighing-contract-offer-from-michigan-that-includes-no-nfl-clause-f

Coaches forever have had problems with Harbaugh from Ditka to just about every college coach that has had dealings with him.

He appears to be nothing like his brother John who has as many Super Bowl wins as Jim and may be headed to another.

It's a mess alright. "Unionized college teams" It is on the way. Didn't know schools were being sued big time.

Figured the P5 would pull away from the NCAA and form their own organization. Question is.....what about the sports other than football????

I guess I'm not up to speed on lawsuits that could cause the "big 5" conferences to go bankrupt.

And it does seem as if the only way to go is to institute some sort of pro league rules...

Individually negotiated contracts or base union pay scale?
Team Salary caps?
Player movement?  Scholarships?
Why even bother asking football players to take classes?

I'd like to say I'll enjoy seeing all those "Fat Cat" schools who have been abusing the system for so long get their come-up-ins, but that probably won't happen.  There's still to much money too go around and those guys know how to protect each other.  The winners in the old system will find a way to keep being winners in the new system.

I agree with Ken. Will it just be football or will the women's golf teams, wrestling teams or the ever popular virtual teams that play video games be affected? We have discussed bass fishing and trap teams, too.
I realize schools make money on high attendance and popular sports.
