Title: Ducks on the pond
Post by: GrandpaTom on December 12/05/22, 04:19:05 PM
This would be something awesome to see.  We had lots of ducks on our lake during duck hunting season because they knew they were safer there.  A mama with 56 ducklings following her.

A lot of momma ducks dumped their eggs in that 1 nest. Looks like a Merganser. I believe they nest like wood ducks in any hole they can find.

Is it normal to see so many ducklings that late in the season - or does duck hunting happen early enough to get one more brood hatched?

As long as there is open water and food they will stick around.

Yeah, I know they will stick around, but I didn't expect to see ducklings late in the season.

yeah me neither.  I get the second hatches but that shoulda been 6 months ago. These little tikes won't see coastal waters until it's time to fly back..
