Still not back to work yet. Pain was really bad. Had a cortisone shot. Knee pain went away for 8 whole days. Did the physical therapy. Made it much worse. Then I did the 3 rooster comb infections paired with an unloader knee brace.Worked for about a week.. Hurts the same as it did months ago. Workers comp insurance finally approved me for total knee replacement. Soonest date I could get was March 20th.
-
Good luck. The guys that I know that did it are doing great!
-
Do the therapy!👍
Good luck sir!!
-
Sooo thats why your grumpy...Hang tough! Hope yu have a great knee surgeon. Youll be standing at the back fence again in no time!!
-
The physical therapy is the key to success for sure. Good luck DK!!!
-

-

-
Good luck DK! Dang you've been off for a spell, probably need to be retrained when you do go back!
-
Good luck dk! It made a world of difference for my Mom. When she finished her therapy, she wanted to take me for a ride to show me how well she could drive. She backed her Buick out of the garage & smashed it into the rear bumper on my pickup! :doah: Her knee worked really well though. :happy1:
-
Good luck. I had a knee replaced. Had lots of scar tissue. Therapist wasn't tough enough. Had to have some removed. I told the second therapist to get ornery. He was. Much better now.
Every one is different. Make sure you get an ornery therapist to push you.
-
might i suggest a sports orthopedic therapist........ i've watched my wife and mom go thru knee replacements, my wife went to a sports orthopedic and mom did not......and i Definity noticed the difference!!!

The warden has had both of hers done. Second one was a harder recovery. It was during covid and they cut out some of the therapy..... not a good idea
She's fine now but now her one hip is an issue.
Not kneeling anymore is a bummer though. :pouty:
-
Yeah.....I couldn't kneel either. As a big gardener, this was really tough. After some scar tissue removal and the right therapist I can now kneel. The surgeon told me that over 50% of his patients cannot kneel.
My therapist had me do what they do at Mayo.....
Kneel on a cushion next to the bed to lean on. Then stack and restack 6-8 cups on the floor. Forces your mind to the stacking and not the kneeling.
He also said to have my wife sit down opposite me while kneeling and play catch with a ball. Roll it, toss it one side, then the other. Again forces your mind to concentrate on the catching, not the kneeling.
Keep doing this every day until you can kneel w/o playing the games. Worked for me.
-
:happy1: Good for you, Ken!!

If your Catholic, may be you just need to go back to church more for some kneeling therapy! :happy1: :happy1: :rotflmao:
-
I am Catholic.....but my 3 daughters are now Lutheran. Along with all the grandkids. So When I go to church it is usually with one of them. No kneeling.

Well it won't be much fun, one of the more painful orthopedic joint replacement. As everyone has mentioned take physical therapy seriously. You'll be so glad you had it done within 3 months of the surgery. If they don't put you on a bowel regime take a capful of miralax a day. Those opioids bind you up

yuppers!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

That's no kidding. Opioids can cause such constipation that it is worse than the surgery. Don't wait and see if you need it. Take stool softeners from day one. They are your friend.

At least once a month someone comes into the ER within a week of post surgery perseverating over their bowel movements. Heck people come to the ER if they miss a day. I tell people they should get healthy hobbies to occupy their mind. Apparently for a large portion of society over 75 they track them, any abnormalities they decide they need to come see me at 0200 in the morning

I bet you get a lot of senseless visitors in the ER that could of been dealt with at a doctor's office during normal business hours.
I've had more conversations during negotiations over health insurance that I care to hear about regarding that!;

I have a question for you kettle. Surgery is on Monday the 20 of March. What are the chances I'm able to go to the MDHA banquet on that Saturday the 25? No standing just walking and sitting.
-
Just from my experience.....You may be able to get to something like that using a walker. You will be on pain killers and it will be swollen. I was on acetaminophen and Ibuprophen. 10 a day for a couple weeks. Sitting will be difficult.
I couldn't ride in a car for more that 20 miles or so for awhile. Starting out sitting in the back seat with my leg up on the seat. Now everyone is different. Just my experience.

You could go, you'll be in some discomfort and you'll hurt the next day but it's doable. Definitely talk with your surgery team about how much Tylenol and Advil you van take and even if you don't have pain stay up on taking it for a week or two. You don't want to get behind and then have severe pain. Might need a walker, cane or crutches tho

The general public has zero idea, yes I do obviously deal with emergencies but a lot of it could be dealt with in clinic. It's always the middle of the night for simple or odd stuff. I work really small hospitals throughout the state like 2-4 bed ERs so my shifts are 48-72 hours, there's sleep rooms but it gets old getting woke up for a cough. Getting woke up for life threatening issues I have no problem with. Besides swinging a hammer I don't know much about anything outside of medicine

I've seen pictures, I think you can hunt and fish a little. :rotflmao:
Maybe take boar once in a while so he learns maybe!! :happy1: :rotflmao:

I'll take anyone fishing, all they have to do is ask. Especially open water. Open water I typically fish 12-16 days a month.

Surgery went well. Dr said it was textbook with no surprises. No pain yet. It will start coming tomorrow when nerve block starts wearing off.
-
Good to hear dk and best of luck! :happy1:
-
Good luck DK, those blocks work wonders. You'll be back in no time!
-
Good luck bud. Therapy therapy therapy!! :happy1:
-
good to hear and good luck dakids!!!!!
-
Great to hear DK!! Physical therapy will be the key to healing.
-
Already did my 1st physical therapy. Walking the halls every hour. This is what the inside looks like.
-
:happy1: i've seen that setup a few times myself.......... couple hip ones too!!!!!!!
-
Heres my hip. Still feel it but im 99% better. Listen to the dr. And do yur exerxiaes.
-
My knee feels awesome. Joint pain is gone. Still have swelling and pain from surgery but I'm sure happy so far. Before surgery I received 2 injections after pain medicine that were time released crystals. I'm on day 2 and Dr said the injections wear off end of day 2
I found out I HATE oxicontin. I get very agitated, and stomach pain.
-
:happy1: that'll leave a mark!!!!! i'm with you on that Dakids......i hated that stuff........
-
one piece of advice Dakids, if they havent already told you..........when you start going to physical therapy, take whatever your choice of pain meds prior to going to therapy!!!!! form my wifes experience it will be a good choice. cause they do some serious bending to that knee!!!
-
Definitely take stool softeners whilst taking pain meds DK. No joke. Terrible consequences if you don't. Been there done that. Worse than the pain.
-
Trust Dr. Barry. Witnessed the same thing recently with the wife, especially when she limited her food intake and refused to eat any fruits and vegetables. Cheese sandwiches made with white bread and noodles are like intestinal glue.
-
Definitely taking stool softener. Yep, I plan on preemptive pain meds. Therapy starts tomorrow
-
how long did ya get off work?? the more the better I think...

At UPS I can't have any restrictions when I go back to work. My injury was workers comp. So most people are off for at least 5 months. Most are 6 or 7 months.
That would mean about September. Our contract runs out August 1st. There will be a strike. Hopefully it's all resolved by the time I get back to work
