Well our lake trout bite has certainly fluctuated with the weather. During warmer and more settled days we are continuing to see excellent catches with numerous ten pounders being caught.

The white tube is still a dominant performer but the little cleo has produced quite well also. Fish are still being found in forty to sixty feet of water and points and shelves have continued to produce numbers of fish. Some fisherman are fishing flats and catching trout but also seeing catches of some nice whitefish.

We are hearing that a few muskies have been caught through the ice while trout fishing. One guest fought one to the hole but just could not get her head through before she finally broke off. Remember if you catch one of these beauties a quick picture and proper release is necessary to give the fish a good chance of survival.

With some nice fish being caught we finally had somebody enter a trout in our tournament, $500 is up for grabs. Pat Wavrin has entered a ten pound fourteen ounce fish and so far is in first place. This weight sets the mark for others to beat and our guests are having lots of fun with this. There is still lots of time to weigh in so we should see some more entries.

Crappies the last couple of days have been on fire out at Hay Island on Lake of the Woods. Reports of nice slabs are coming in and it should remain good for a while. Still depths of thirty five to forty feet and the forage minnow jig in glow has been a top producer when tipped with a small minnow. Town is still producing but the average size seems to be a little smaller lately. Stevens Bay will hopefully start to produce as the season progresses as this area seems a little better later in the year. Not to many reports of fisherman targeting walleye. Another month and we should really start to see them become more active. With the cold weather we have excellent ice conditions and no reports of any mishaps.

As always though be safe and use common sense when out there. Good-luck and hope to see you out there.

If today was perfect. There would be no need for tomorrow.
