how is the ice looking?

how is the ice up there?  I hope it stays on right up to the Friday before opener... so the guys have good fishing and the indians can't get out with their nets and kill all the big spawning females.

i guess i'll have to answer my own question...

the ice is away from shore all up the west side around the north anywhere from 20 to i'd say almost 75 yards in some places.  and yes, the indians were gettin out in their brand new lund boats from the public access north up by mirmar, (the one off 169 right before it heads north to aitkin) and they were heading out to net thursday evening.  i hope their nets get wrapped around their props.

i talked to my cousin that lives in the condo's at mirmar and he said that the nets were full of walleyes this morning. i also talked to a friend that has a place on the west side across from the mille lacs golf course north of the casino, and he said that the ice has piled up 30 feet high in front of his place and 2 doors down it is up over the shore and only 10 feet from the cabin. i am going over there in the morning to take some pictures. by the way, cove bay is 90% open as it got dark today, the main lake is normally about a week behind.........tom fellegy
