CURIOSITY WINS - Cameraman Rich Rumppe of Relay House Satellite Company came to film Lynn Rogers and Ben the bear for ESPN Live. Ben checked him out first. The ESPN people are debating about whether the fastest football player in the NFL could outrun a bear. Since Rogers is the expert on bears, the crew was sent to get the facts. The fact is: The fastest a human can run is 27 miles an hour and a lean black bear can run over 30 miles an hour, while a grizzly bear isn't quite that fast. Even a good dodging football player can not compete with the agility of an animal on four legs. Rogers says, "The bear could catch him." Hopefully Rogers' word will be proof enough. However, Rogers added that he could outrun Ted. Ted is the largest known black bear in the world. But a younger, leaner bear could run faster. Ted is one of three bears at the North American Bear Center. The Bear Center is open daily 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Photo by Pam Roberts
