Search under way for missing boater on Mille Lacs Lake

A 59-year-old Twin Cities man was presumed missing after a boat washed up on shore Thursday morning, the Aitkin County Sheriff's Department announced Friday afternoon.

A search was under way for the missing fisherman.

The sheriff's department received a report at 11:05 a.m. Thursday of a boat washed up on the north shore. The 1997 18-foot Ranger boat is believed to have been launched from Cash's Landing, possibly as early as Wednesday night. It was believed the Twin Cities man occupied the boat.

Aitkin and Mille Lacs sheriffs' departments and the DNR searched the lake Thursday. Those agencies were assisted by the State Patrol and the DNR aircraft.

The search continued Friday with assistance from the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department.
