I bought my first Deer license in 1968. It cost $5.00 and was good for 1 Deer(either sex) and 1 Bear. Can anyone here besides me remember what the legal height for a permanant Deer stand was back then.

I'm going to say ten feet.

Not from memory though.... ;D
Marry an outdoors woman. Then if you throw her out into the yard on a cold night, she can still survive.

It was 9 feet and I'm sticking with that.

I remember 6 to 8 ft and having the gun handed to me from someone standing on the ground!!!! THEN seeing someone had put one up higher and climbing in it, wishing I could have one this high

While on this subject, can someone tell me why you can sit 30 feet up a tree in a 15 inch square platform strapped to the tree with a nylon cord but you can't be over 16 feet up when you construct it with screws, nails and lumber?  I guess you can tell where I stand on the issue.

Because the manufactured ones are put together by engineers and they will stand behind the product (alegedly).  If you or I do it, there's no guarantee that either one of us knows what we're doing.  The engineers basically put their stamp of approval on their stands saying they can perform up to a certain weight.

I know it still has nothing to do with the height though.
If ya don't know where ya are, go back to da beginnin.

it becomes unstable at a point i think. i put my hang on about 20-25 feet up the tree. but i wont gun hunt out of any but the one that i built, i aint to good at off-handed shots. :banghead:
