Does anyone know how to find out when/where and how to participate? I would like to see how I would match up against other callers, but I don't know how/where to get started. Any and all thoughts welcome! Also, does/has anyone here ever done compitition calling B4?.

I've been in a few. You should check out callingducks.com and the MN duck and goose callers assoc. I think all the contests are done for the year but they always have something at the Game Fair.
Where I'm from calling, flagging and decoying are just basic skills and the kids will do a little guiding just to pay off some bills.

I don't have a routine as of yet, but I am still learning how contest calling works. I am good enough at goose calling to not look like a fool, but I know there is more work that needs to go into the cotest aplication. Let me put it this way, I have watched some of your buddies in contests on youtube, aveyoutdoors, and other web sites and I am better that most of them that think they are the coolest thing out there. I am no Tim G, Hunter G, Fred, or Field but Im no shlep either. I think being part of a contest would be a cool expierence and I think I could do fairly well. And 90 seconds is only a long time if you can't blow a goose call.

How old are you? The MWA has a Woodie Camp for young hunters where they teach you how to blow a contest routine and what not. You should check their website. As far as putting a routine together, you just call to a imaginary flock of geese, that you see at a distance, work in, lose, bring back then finish.

Chris: Thats what I would like to find out!

PJ: The last time I was at camp was in the in 1992. I think I would be a bit out of place. Also I know how to blow a call. I just need to find a contest in the area.

If Y'all here of any that are comiming up please let me know.

GTH I dont think Pj is knocking you, I know I am not.

I think the next MN contest is prolly red bear this spring? Maybe PJ would know.

Joes had one a few weeks ago, SW in woodbury a month ago. Otherwise the closest one to the metro is Game Fair next August and there are some big guns there. Cory Loeffler, Big Craig, Scotty T, Killer Miller, Ben Marleau, etc, etc. Ill let you know the next comp.

If your looking to learn about routines, look up Trevor Schaefer on youtube, otherwise hes on ctl.com

Thanks Chris! I wonder if there will be any small time ones at sporting goods stores or anything like that? I will check that out on youtube. Also, I know your not knocking me, and I apreciate your input. I don't know any of those guys you mentioned, but I think I hunted with Cory Loefler's sister and her boyfriend the other weekend. Her brother was one of the DR guys. Not sure, but I think it's him.

If I hear of any I will put up a post or pm you. Cabela's has a big waterfowl sale this weekend, I know Field, Tyson, and others will be there. It would be worth the phone to see if they are having a calling contest.

On the flip-side I know Cory Loeffler too. He has kicked my butt in calling contests up and down the Red River valley for the last five years.

Goose Fest is this coming weekend, they always have a comp up there in Middle River. Long drive from the city but some good hunting opps and the comp shouldnt be too hard.

I know Death Row Calls is sponsoring it I believe, Cory has won it a few times in the past, Im not sure if hes doing it this year though. I think Mike Benjamin might go though but the real big guns wont be there.

Worlds is coming up in November..Maryland is getting close but thats a haul as well.
