Maybe someone could tell me why the D.N.R. doesn't restore the access on the south side of Red Lake.  It was once a beautiful access which many of the people from that side of the lake could use.  Its there, it only needs to be upgraded.  Give me your thoughts or opinions.

It is located in west Shotley township 23.  Very close to the reservation.  Fishermen were using it this weekend but it was torn up pretty good.  We ended up going over to Rogers to land our boat.

Sounds to me like we might have a landing restoration project. I havn't even seen it so I havn't a clue what it would require but a bit of discussion with the DNR and I bet we could figure out something.

I'll have to contact the D.N.R. and see what they have to say...

Maybe we could come up with a MNO fundraiser to help restore the access, they could in return give us the naming rights to the access. ;D

When you find out how much the budget to restore the access will be, please let us know.

I wrote an e-mail to the Bemidji D.N.R. office, with my concerns.  I'll keep you posted, if I recieve a response.  It sure would be nice if they would restore this access, then we could land our boat only a 1/4 mile from our property instead of driving 10-15 miles.

Cookie, we are coming up tomorrow (friday).  We are supposed to get electricity on Friday, which will be nice and we won't have to listen to the generator.  We were only up for the opener, it was so cold that we only fished for about one hour, caught our walleyes, one eight pounder!!  One crappie.  This weekend we plan on catching and releasing a bunch of crappies.  We are building a deck for the camper and plan on doing a lot of fishing when the temperature gets high.  I'll send you an e-mail.

Talked with a CO last weekend he mentioned that the old access is very shallow and that he didn't think the access would be developed.  He didn't want to talk about it.

If lower Red was ever opened up to the white people to fish, this would be the ideal access!!!  I bet it would get alot of attention then!  Even if its shallow, just put in a cement ramp and it would be good.  I still haven't recieved an e-mail from the D.N.R out of Bemidji!!

Enclosed is a e-mail I received from the Bemidji D.N.R. office.

Harry,
I will forward your inquiry to our Trails & Waterways division that has
responsibility for developing and maintaining boat access.? I do not know of any
specific plans for improvement at that site. I know that T&W invested a great
deal in developing the new site on the Tamarac River this past summer and did a
very nice job.? We have heard many compliments on that facility since the
fishing opener.? I do know that their time and funding can only be spread so
far, and the Tamarac site was the obvious high priority location.?

Will the D.N.R. restore the access on the south side of Red Lake?? At one
time a few years ago this was a nice access and was used by the people on
the south side of the lake.? It wouldn't take much to make this a useable
access once again and would take some of the pressure off of the access on
the Tamarac river.? We have property on this side of the lake and it sure
would be nice to have an access close by instead of having to drive 10-15
miles.? Please write me back with your thoughts.? ?Harry Dahlin
