Grouse & leaves just south of Bemidji

Anyone have a report on the leaves off and the grouse population in the Becida area?  We are heading up on Wednesday, October 1st for a few days to hunt some grouse and do some work on trails and our deer stands.

The way it looks in the Mankato area, there will still be way too many leaves left on in the Becida area in the next few days.  But that's the breaks, we want to do some trail and stand work on our property and like to do it at least 3 or so weeks before deer season.  Since my brother always goes up Columbus Day weekend, that usually leaves me the prior weekend, which basically doesn't hold true this year because of the later deer opener.

So, how does the grouse look in the Becida area?

Im heading north of Nevis this week to do the same, CampYJewel gave me a report on the leaves recently, shes up in that area, and she said the leaves would be near peak color by this weekend, so it'll be a bit tough to see em in the air with all the colors, but the cover is gonna still be thicker than ya want, but we'll just to make due, eh?  Good luck!

Thunder is right, unless we get a huge wind storm most of the leaves are still on the trees.  We had a frost again last night.  Some spots are changing pretty fast then you drive a half mile and all the trees are good and green, kind of strange.

Yeah, it was beautiful up in that area this weekend, but way too thick for seein birds.... heard some, seen one, and it was only for a moment!  another week or so and we'll lose some leaves and ground cover up there... alot of green stuff on the ground yet....

Most of the leaves on and not too many birds in the areas we hunted. 

The bright side was the great weather, maybe a little too warm, but we did get some new trails cut plus chop out some of the older logging trails on our property.

So overall, a few good days in the field.
