Kabetogama/Namakan Fishing Report 9/8/08

Fall weather settles in, gloves go on, couple layers of clothes feel good and it’s fall weather fishing time. Anglers again report success in the late afternoon hours at shallow depths, 8-15’, most using slip sinker rigs with minnow. Morning and midday anglers looking for walleye are doing their best at 28-34’, jig and minnow is the mainstay. Slip sinker rigs and bottom bouncers certainly help you productively find them. Northern pike reacting to artificials along deep weed edges, or still fish with sucker minnows on the edges of windblown shorelines. Some crappie action happening but they remain elusive, suspended in mid-depth waters. Reef edges, rock piles and shoreline structures featuring sharp drops are holding groups of walleyes. Bear hunters having reasonably good success in our area, and we now position ourselves for grouse hunters. Does it get any better?
