Ice conditions are fair considering all the snow we have.  The slush out on the mainlake has been a problem.
We ended up with about 9 inches of new snow last night, so travel out on the ice has been limited to the ice roads or snowmachines.

We have about 18 inches of good ice under all that snow and slush.
You can find areas where the surface is slush free however you'll want to move with caution. There are two good roads out from the McKinley park ramp and that is the best east end access.  You'll also find several side roads however they may not be in as good of condition as the main roads.

The Walleye action has been pretty good this week in the deeper water.
Depths of 28 to 35ft, seem to be holing the most fish.  there have been some good fish caught in shallower water, however that bite hasn't been real consistent.

Small glow jig and spoons have beenvery effective along with a dead stick rig.  Tip the jigs with a minnow head or even the whole minnow. You just have to see what they are hitting on that particular day.  The best bite of the day is early and late in the day.  We seldom get much of a night bite, unless you're into pout fishing.

The Pike action has been very good all season. Tip-ups or jigs, tipped with a medium sucker or a frozen smelt are the ticket. Rocky shoreline breaks in 6 to 14ft and shallow weed flats in 3 to 6ft have been the go to locations. The larger Pike will come off the breaks on mainlake points most of the time.

Hi Ironranger,

The road is in pretty good shape out of Mckinley park. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the Walleye fishing as of late.  I drove my wifes little car out yesterday, my trucks in the shop. :censored:

I wouldn't get off the main drag to far unless it's an all wheel dive. My wife's car is front wheel, however I have a good road plowed to my shack. :dancinred:

Good Luck out there! ;)
