Win a day of fishing on Basswood with Lee Borgersen

Once again Lee Borgersen has volunteered to take the winner of the Conservationists with Common Sense - CWCS 'Early Bird Drawing' winner on a day of fishing on Basswood Lake this summer. The winner will be drawn from the early CWCS membership dues sent in before June 1, 2009. The 2005 winner of the day trip to Basswood with Lee, Dave Johnson from Virginia, MN had a fantastic time and four years later he still tells people about the great fishing and the tips learned from Lee.

Thanks Lee for being such a great supporter of CWCS. Send in your CWCS membership dues today! Membership forms on the website: www.cwcs.org and also in the next CWCS Spring 2009 Newsletter that will be in the mail in early May.

These are the two articles from the December 2005 newsletter.  There were pictures too, of you and Dave.

Fishing with Lee Borgersen

The winner of the CWCS free Basswood trip with Lee Borgersen was Dave Johnson from Virginia MN. Dave arrived at Lee's cabin at 5:20 a.m. and was served up some eggs, bacon, sausage, American fried potatoes, and toast with blueberry jam washed down with some hot java.

Lee explained to Dave that he searches for quality fish over quantity of fish. Dave was fine with that. So, of course, the first fishing spot yielded no fish after trying for one and half hours. The next spot the fishing duo caught three nice 20 /21 inch smallies and a 3# walleye, along with some medium size bass.

The next spot was to be Frog Bay next, but Lee had to try that first spot once more. When Lee pulled in for the second time he could almost feel Dave's eyes roll back in his head. Lee told him that a lunker spot can turn on at any time, so it needs to be checked out often. Within 5 minutes Dave slammed a nice 26 inch walleye. Within 10 more minutes Lee managed a 29 inch walleye (released) on the same spot. As fast as it started the area went dead. Dave and Lee wound up having a swell time and Dave really enjoyed his first time on Basswood.

A letter from Dave Johnson

I would like to thank CWCS for their varied efforts in preserving multiple use of the Boundary Waters. But, I would particularly like to thank the organization for the prize I gratefully received and used as a result of getting my dues in early - a day of fishing with Lee Borgersen on Basswood Lake near Ely, MN.

I was greeted with a great breakfast, and we were off early in the morning. Prairie Portage into Basswood Lake, managed by the LaTourell family, was a great adventure. Even though the temperatures were in the 90s, Lee put us onto some great fishing. I caught a 7 pound walleye, and Lee caught one that was in the 10 pound class. We also caught numerous smallmouth bass in the 5 to 6 pound range. Conversation was great and so were the fishing tips.

You to can win an exciting wilderness fishing trip on famous Basswood Lake in the BWCA. All you have to do is sign up as a member of the CWCS and you will automatically be entered in the free member drawing.

CWCS stands for conservationists with common sense.  They are a grassroots nonprofit organization based out of Northern MN.

I am donating a free guided trip to Basswood Lake in the BWCA to the winner of a drawing for the CWCS.

http://www.cwcs.org.  The CWCS (Conservationists With Common Sense) is an outstanding organization in Northern Minnesota that fights for the rights of hunters, fisherman, campers, atv and snowmobile groups. Trying to protect and secure their rights to utilize public lands and waters.

They are one of the few groups that will challenge the extreme environmental groups that are slowly trying to prevent the public from using public lands and waters. The Idea is that any new members or existing members that pay their dues by June first will be entered in the free trip drawing provided by Yours truly.

This is one of the types of things that MN0 is getting behind 100 percent. Given that MNO is an outdoors site they want to get behind and support those that are fighting for the rights of the outdoor advocates. Please take a moment to visit the CWCS web-site and sign up as a member. This will also enter you in the drawing for a free fishing trip of a lifetime on beautiful basswood Lake in the BWCA.

I'm trying to help increase new membership by donating a free guided trip on Basswood Lake In the BWCA

It's only $15.00 to join. I'd love to see someone from MNO be the winner so I could take them out on Basswood.

Thanks Jeff for the plug for Conservationists with Common Sense.

As with any organization, we strive to keep people informed about what is going on in Northeastern Minnesota.  We all love the area and CWCS main goal is to keep things as they are so everyone can continue to enjoy our beautiful forest for multiple recreation uses and our great lakes for fishing.

Lee Borgersen is great! His willingness to take a CWCS member fishing on Basswood as an award for sending in their membership dues early is fantastic.  Thanks Lee for being such a great supporter of CWCS.  We need more people like you.

In the Ely area we are still waiting for resolution from the Forest Service for the lack of Chain of Lakes permit quotas.  In the Grand Marais area we are still waiting to see when the South Fowl Snowmobile will be built.  And of course, there are the preservation groups who want to lock up more land (90,000 acres in northeastern Minnesota) and restrict it from allowing motorized access.

It's a constant battle.  If only everyone would acknowledge that there is room for everyone in the Boundary Waters.  We all love the area just as much as the next guy.  We just have to exhibit tolerance of other uses and be responsible for what kind of Boundary Waters experience you want to have.  If it's fishing, most will use a boat and motor.  If it's quiet and solitude, most will use a canoe and avoid the motor areas.

Again thanks for allowing CWCS to have a forum to educate people.

Good fishing.
