I was fishing a river with my cousin that's about 6ft deep with a very rocky bottom and a very strong current. Now my question is how do I fish these walleys? I fish from shore. With a lindy rig the bait is pushed to the bottom and line is carried quickly down to river and pushed right up next to shore. I was thinking of trying a 3 way swivel with a very heavy sinker on it but I was wondering if anyone had their own little special way of fishing in these conditions? I use live bait (shiners) but will take any advice. I know rapalas will work a little later in the year but the current is very strong makes the rapala action pretty bad. So please give me your advice.
Let the small bucks walk. Don't assume the neighbors will shoot them if you don't. If you shoot him what chance does that buck have to grow......ZERO!

Try the 3 way with just enough weight to keep it in one spot. That may mean buying a few different sizes. Then try a floating jig if using shiners/minnows....on about 18 inches of line coming off the swivel... Another option is try using a nightcrawler with a good ole worm blower to inflate it. Another thing to try is the 3 way swivel with a small shiner like rapala...shallow diver, it will still move and stay off the bottom. Looks like a wounded minnow that can not make it up stream.

I have used 3-way rigging and also just a jig and minnow or twister tail with different retrives works well.

Try this set up : main line, 2-5 oz no roll sinker, a bead or small split shot ( pinh on with fingers only ! If you get hung up you have a way better chance of getting your rig back, you only loose the pinch weight usually) Then tie on small but stronger swivel, then a short leader and a hook or jig of your chioce. if you use a plain hook experiment with the leader length because the current will lift the bait off the bottom. ( longer leader means higher off the bottom). Try this out and report back !

Also try experimenting with the way you have the bait hooked . lips, head , in mouth out the top of head, tail hooked , and dorsal hooked. more natural usualy work the best.

shallow running shad raps or x raps would be worth a try also  :happy1:

Back home in NoDak I used to fish the Missouri River a lot from shore. I would put on a 3/4 to 1 oz lindy style weight and an 18" leader with a floating jig head. It's going to come in a little but you should be able to keep it out for the most part. Pounded a lot of eyes that way.
