Just wondering if people think the new moon is going to make the deer move.  The new moon is on the 17th of Oct. i think it is going to be one of the best weekends to hunt.  I would like to hear what people think, and then after we all hunt the weekend see if what we thought was true.  Like i said in some of the earlier posts, i hunt near chisago city, MN, and i haven't seen many big deer.  I have seen a few rubs, medium sized does and fawns, 5 fox, two coyotes. . .
Saturday morning i saw my first good sign a doe track directly over a good sized buck track.  then i got into my stand. i had 3medium sized does and a botton buck bed up within 40 yrds.  Then the little buck got up, and in came a nice eight pointer(which i missed, due to buck fever and following through because i was drawn too long) and behind him(which i did not know till after i shot) was a big 10pointer for sure a wall mounter.  I hope i see them again chances arent good but im hoping.  It should be a good weekend, good luck to all.

New and Full moons are a great time to be in the woods during the middle of the day. Deer move the most whe the moon is directly above us and directly below us. It's hard to stay in the stand that long but late mornings have always been good to me during these times. It you've had doe bedded by you I would say you are in a KEY location for a pre rut attack on a big buck. They will start cruising these bedding areas sticking to that glimmer of hope that a doe will come into estrus early. I would do everything in my power to sit all day in a location like this. Bucks that chase all night a lot of times take a snooze in the early morning then continue their hunt for a willing doe later in the morning. All of the big bucks that have been shot on our property and 90% of the sightings of big ones have been late mornings and early afternoons. Good luck sounds like you have the winning ticket now you just have to cash it in.
Let the small bucks walk. Don't assume the neighbors will shoot them if you don't. If you shoot him what chance does that buck have to grow......ZERO!

Well i went out hunting oct 13th, tuesday night, to the same spot where i missed an 8 pointer the saturday before 10am and a big 10 was with him. i hunted from 2:00-7:00pm. And i noticed a fresh(within 24hrs) scrape on the ground, it wasn't very big but still exciting.  So i waited, i did not see a deer until 6:15, even with rattling and grunting.  It was another buck i hadn't seen before he was an 8 pointer, probably 2yrs old, and average rack with another year or two it will be awesome. he walked straight at me then noticed me sitting in my tree(maybe becuase all the squirrels and chikadees rustling leaves behind me) ,and becuase of all the low hanging branches im only about 16ft off the ground, and he turned around and took a different route. Anyway the bucks are moving and in the last 3 days ive seen a 8, another older bigger 8 and a huge 10 a def. wall mounter.  before these last few bucks i had not seen any but 2 small bucks laying in some cover.  i have decided not to hunt until Friday morning, so i give the woods a break.  But i still think the days before and after the new moon are to be the best this year. Good luck and let me know how your hunting is going.
