The Dec. 10-13 statewide antlerless hunt opened today.

Antlerless tag availability will determine how many hunters are eligible to hunt in any given deer management unit.  In some "Regular" units, very few hunters will be eligible to participate in the hunt.  Hunters who have antlerless tags left over from previous 2009 gun seasons are also eligible to hunt.

Tag availability is currently posted on the Wisconsin DNR website:
http://dnr.wi.gov/org/caer/cs/BonusAvailability.htm

The late archery season is still open throughout the 4-day Dec. gun hunt.  However, archery hunters are also required to follow blaze orange requirements and are restricted to the harvest of antlerless deer only during the 4-day period.

Deer hunters should be aware that many winter sports/recreation enthusiasts will also be in the woods and are encouraged to respect their presence.

More information is available in the 2009 Wisconsin Deer Hunting Regulations booklet:
