Cold conditions have frozen some of the smaller lakes in the Ely area, with ice being reported to be 3-5 inches.
These include Birch, Shagawa, Johnson, One Pine, Cedar, etc.
Larger lakes such as Burntside are partially frozen in some spots, and wide open in others.
From the looks of the forecast, the rest of the lakes should be frozen entirely within a week to 10 days. :happy1:

Five to six inches of ice currently on Shagawa. Some pike to twenty-four inches coming out of the North side on small sucker minnows. A few anglers are taking a few nice walleyes and jumbo perch from the Sandy point area.
Grassy and Low lakes are turning out some fair size crappies and sunnies on jig and waxie combos.
Robinson lake has been providing some nice sunnies in six to eight feet of water.
Should have decent ice making for the next week with the below zero nights and no new snowfalls.

Ice conditions continue to just get better and better. Most lakes that we've fished now have sixteen inches of ice or there abouts. Walleye bite seems to be best late mornings, and four to seven evenings. Rainbow minnows are the bait of choice.
Crappies are being taken, but not any slabs yet, but you can catch a bucket of ten to twelve inchers, which eat just as well.
