Lake Geneva Report 8/30/06

Fished Wednesday 8/30 with Abe one of Lake -Links members. We started out at 6:00 am and decided to check out a trolling pattern that I usually like at this time of the year. When the lake starts to cool down a tad this pattern works into early November. Ken had a whack from a northern on our first trolling pass. After a quick boat side release that included one of my favorite special order custom 1 ounce tandem spinner baits.
We immediately decided to switch to plan A (SMALLMOUTH). The first spot we headed for was not one of my favorites, but high on the list. We worked a long bar off shore with limited weed growth. Ken worked a slip bobber on one rod and a Carolina rig on the other while I stuck with the Carolina rig. We managed 8 smallies with Ken catching 6 of the 8 and some other (guide) catching 2. The best one on this spot was 18 1/2 inches.

It was time for another spot so we headed west only to find another boat on MY SPOT. So, we decided not to crowd up on him and moved to the south shore and fished the edge of a steep break anchored in 30 fow. We were able to work in 35 to 23 ft with the anchor properly position. This gives you lot of ranges to cover without hoping around. We caught a dozen legal size S/M on this spot with the best one at 20 inches. Over all we totaled 20 legal smallies with many others that were smaller sized, but still fun.
