Rockman’s Report
2/22/10
The surgery went well and I am now just getting started with getting through the daily grind of healing. I will be going to the doc in the morning, to have the soft cast taken off and the staples taken out if the incisions and back into a hard cast for another 6 weeks. Then a walking boot for another four weeks and by the middle of May I should be good to go, baring any problems with the bone fusing together that is. There is always something that comes up. Other than that, I am doing ok, trying to keep my mind busy, which is going to be most of the battle, other than not being able to get into the hot tullie bite that is going on right now. The perch are coming around more and more each day also, but there are so many tullies out here feeding on the bugs, that I think they are just not enough perch to push them around. There has not been a tulliebee bite like this in 10 years or more.
If you want to catch some pretty nice fighting fish that are one of the best smoked fish, in the whole wide world, now is the time to get up here and get in on it. Bring up plenty of wax worms and stop and get some spring bobbers and some 4 lb test. They are light bitters so you will need the spring bobbers to catch them. I use just a single hook on my Swedish pimples instead of the treble hook or just an ice fly or any panfish jigs. They do not want a big gob of stuff on the hook, just a couple of wax worms will do. Almost everyone who was out this weekend, got their limit of tullies and some even caught some keeper walleyes along with them. There were some 12 1/2 inch perch caught, but most of the perch were 10 to 11 inches. I am still very confident, that the perch will be moving in over the next 4 to 5 days out on the second reef and the bug humps will be good to go by the beginning of next week.
That is the report from this past weekend and it is going to get better and better. I had a good push of road passes this morning, so if the perch bite changes out on the bug humps I will post it this week. I do have a couple of houses left for rent for the up coming, last weekend of the walleye season. I will let them go for ½ price, if you mention that you heard about the special price on the report to Patty or me when you call and you must take it for the weekend which is 48 hours. You can set your own time that you want to come in on Friday and your own time out on Sunday, what more could you ask for? I have two big 12x14 6 hole 6 bunk houses, one 8x12 4 bunk 8 hole foam house, and the specialty “Love Shack” house available this weekend. Jonathan will be pulling, all of the big houses off on Sunday. We will leave the foam houses out on the bug beds, just off of the second reef, until the 14th of March.
It will all depend on the weather and how much snow we will get over the next 3 weeks. So with that being said, you really need to get up here while the tullies are on fire. They are a gas to catch and if you have some youngsters, they will have a gas catching these fish, they put up a pretty dang good fight and most of them are over a pound and a half or better and you will catch perch and walleye at the same time using the same jigs and bugs. That is it for now, as my foot is starting to throb from being down too long doing the report, and it must be time to medicate!
Have a great week
