I have used the fishermans knot.
Anything that is free is worth saving up for.

I personaly don't like to tie directly to the anchor
get about 3' of chain & attach that to the anchor & then put a clip
on your rope ( should be one on your rope if you bought a anchor rope )
the chain helps to hold your anchor in place on windy days
