Today was the best morning I have ever had hunting Ducks in MN!

It started very slow with the wind really howling. Lucky for us we had it at our backs and there is a ton of trees on the large body of water that we hunted.

We set our deeks and waited. The first flock that came, came 10 mins to early. They were about 10 to 15 nice mallards. Landed in our decoys and Rocky could not stand it anymore and out of no where bolted after a couple. He allmost got a drake but as I was hollaring at him to get back he chose to listen after a stern threat!

That got the heart pumping. Seemed like forever before we would have a real shot. And boy did we. Hunting on Friday morning is allways fun with my unlce. He has to be to work by 9:30am. So we are a little rushed for my liking.

Lucky for us we had a bunch of pairs come to our spread. First chance was another flock of mallards. He jumped the gun and shot a little early nothing fell. Next chance was the same flock, this time I helped him wait with a little look of encouragement  they set so perfect I allmost wished I had my camera. We passed the hens and dropped 2 huge 3 curls!

We had a Widgeon bust us but as he was leaving  Mr. Benelli caught up to him. Rocky made a wonderful retreive on that one.

Next was our local drake and hen mallards. Dropped them easy to. Allmost to easy.

Finaly we had a couple ducks swing us and decoy perfectly again I shot the hen and I had no idea what it was. The drake landed just outside of our decoys as Rocky was retreiving the hen. The drake decided to hop up and fly right back in our face. I did not even see it. My unlce dropped the hammer. I went out with Rocky to watch him make a double retreive.  Big yellow lab with 2 ducks in his mouth how cool is that?

He dropped them at my feet and I said holy chit those are CANS!  I have never shot a Can before. I could have but I love to duck to much to chance taking them the day after in closed last year when the most pretty Can drakes all landed right in my decoys. So this was a first for me!

Needless to say it was the best day we have ever had hunting Ducks in this state!!!

The only bummer is I had pictures to post but they are not anywhere on my camera. Not sure what I did wrong. But we did have the old $5 throw away as the in the field camera.

What a day
