I finally blew one of my transom tie-down straps on the way back from Rainy Lake recently. I've had this boat for - I think - 6 years and went through my first set of straps in less than one year. So I reinforced the next set of straps I bought and they lasted me 5 years.

In case any of you have had similar problems with straps I have included some photos of the new and old straps. Believe it or not I had a hard time finding pieces of leather for this project. This time around I found a guy in Maine who sent me some super study pieces for a reasonable price.

Oh yeah - while I was screwing around I painted my drain plug florescent orange and I keep it in one of those drain holes at the top back of the transom.

I hate when those darn straps break. :taz:  There's never a good time for it to happen. I got one of those new fake drain plug hole decals for my boat. The only problem is I never remember which is the fake hole and which is the actual hole.
