After a lot of thought and reservation I have decided not to deer hunt this year.  I love venison but have made my mind up to concentrate the short Mn. fall time on ducks and fishing.   I do this reluctantly but I want to have fun this fall and I have not (as much as in the past) the last two years.   Just several years ago deer season was fun.  Then the 5 tag intensive harvest permits came out.   A couple of years of that and an increasing wolf population killed my hope for venison.  I really enjoyed the muzzy season because most of the hunters would be gone.  I typically would go scouting thanksgiving or the day after to pick my spots.  The last couple of years I could not even find a deer track.   Last year the DNR cut it back to one bonus tag and now a lottery.  I will sit this year out but will be vicariously hunting with you guys.  Keep the posts coming and pics too.  I have to bang on a few ducks and see if I can't wake up a couple of those fossil walleyes that think they have the secret to old age figured out.   Good luck everyone.  Have a safe season and please share your stories.   :deer:  :happy1:

Randy,  I don't doubt that at all.  I hope to be smiling for weeks on the tales of the hunt and pics from your deer camp.  I am going to get you on the ice this winter.   Like I said I love venison but I miss the days when I would hit the duck lakes on deer opener.   One year all the my main spots froze up and it took me until 10:30 am to find open water.  I saw the biggest buck I have ever seen in my life in the wild.   Standing on a dirt road in Bena with not a blaze orange jacket to be seen.  I got out of my truck, walked up to about 20 yards from him  and threw a 12 guage shell at him and hit him in the vitals.  He jumped off the road but did not run away .   He was a huge 10 pt typical and I have never seen another like him in the wild.   I count that as coop.--or catch and release with honor.   That is a true story.   :happy1: :happy1:

The fishing challenge will be over by then.  Did I mention that I love venison?

                Do you guys hunt Minnesota?
