And the big one is still out there!

After spending most of Saturday clearing dead falls from the trails, and fixing stands damaged in last weeks storm, I finally got in the stand around 4:45.  At 6 pm a doe and fawn began making their way towards me.  After 15 minutes, the doe looked skittish but the fawn continued towards me.  The fawn then stared past me and I figured a deer was approaching from behind and to my right.  Just then I heard the steps, I turned my head and saw a beautiful buck (about 30 yards away) walking in a path that would take him very close to my stand.  I just stood there as he approached.  When he got 5 steps (I paced it off) from my tree he stopped and was looking at the doe (I guess anyway).  I had a scent wick directly to where he was headed so I don't know if he was headed there or just going for the doe.  Being he was broadside at 15 feet I could not draw my bow and decided to wait untill he passed before taking any action.  With this close view, I counted 10 points on his heavy rack.  He looked up at me, didn't seem too alarmed but then turned and started to hop directly away.  I drew my bow and gave a couple meep, baaa's and he stopped broadside at 20 yards.  However his vitals were behind a basswood clump.  He then circled around where he was going to pass an opening at 40 yards.  He again stopped just as his head was in the opening.  I tried to stop him when he stared going by then the doe was snorting and he hopped into a swamp looking for her.  And so, another big buck gets smarter and bigger and all I got is a story.

Ahh Bummer you didnt get a shot  but that is a pretty good story and seems pretty exciting.  Hopefully you have another shot at him (a pretty decent chance since you didnt seem to spook him).
You have trail cam pics of this buck, or was it the first time you saw him?

Real Bummer....he would have been a great one for our Team.. Im worried about my box stands.. we had sustained winds up to 68mph  for two days last week.  So much mud and snow couldnt get to the stands this weekend.
