Coyotes !!!!

Shot a doe at 4:30 tonight, hit kind of far back, had dark blood. Figured it was a liver hit so we waited till about 9:00/9:30 to go get her. She went about 60 yards bedded down, when we got to her the coyotes already started to chew on her. Anyone else have the yotes get on their animal that fast? Pretty quick here it is going to be time to start stacking up some yote furs.

Although we are loaded with coyotes here on our farm, I almost never have them hit even the gut piles. Very strange.  The nice buck that my brother shot this year took 4 or 5 days of crows working it over before the lungs and liver were finally gone.  I sat the same stand a couple days after and most was still there yet.

Two years ago I had a bad hit on a buck and rather chance pushing him into the neighbors we left him overnight and come daylight when we found him there wasnt much left from the yotes!
I know they have been coming onto our door yard and taking the cats this summer!!

we had one take down a deer already this year, i dont know if the coyotes killed her or not but i couldnt find a bullet hole and it was a smaller deer.

Talked to some neighbors today.  On guy watched a coyote chase several deer past his stand.  He said  he nailed the coyote.

sense ive packed most of the hunting gear away, i think i will pull out the predator hunting stuff and start to chase some coyotes!!!

Cody, how do you persue them?  We seem to have a few around that I would like to go after.  Maybe we can plan a hunt?  Let me know.

I know a guy who runs yotes with hounds. I can not wait to go along on one of these adventures!

first the wind is the number 1 factor. coyotes are smart and there sense of smell, sight and hearing are top notch. i set-up were theres little chance of them coming in behind me, and the wind in my face. second i set-up my decoy about 75-100 yards away from me, i use a full body coyote decoy, because coyotes are very territorial(sp) and will chase a invading coyote away on sight. i use primarly howls with a few rabbit screams, the coyotes around here are very well fed(i work on a game farm) so they have plenty of pheasants and ducks that they eat, plus they drag down a few small deer a year. so the screams of a dying rabbit might not get there attention but the howls will. i shoot just my normal deer rifle, with the same grain bullet that i use for deer(150 grain) i know its a little big but i dont want to resight in my scope so ill just leave it how it is. you have to be well hidden,  because they will see you otherwise. so camo is a key factor.
