LOTW Report 1/23/2011

It’s been a frigid weekend here on Lake of the Woods. After a few days of sub zero temperatures, we are finally expected to climb above zero today. With overnight temperatures ranging from 25-40 below, limits of fish were harder to come by the past couple days. However, temperatures were above zero most of last week and guests were getting their limits of Walleye and throwing back plenty of fish too. With the arctic air moving out, fishing should pick back up quick. We are on a good school of Walleyes right now. Guests are marking lots of suspended Walleyes and also seeing more Saugers tight on the bottom. The suspended fish are cruising through anywhere from 5-20’ below the ice. The majority of our houses are 9-10 miles out from the lodge and are sitting over 32-35’ of water. Ice depths are still right around 2 feet.

Our guides have been moving houses, as always, and are scouting new areas right now as well. We plan to move some of our houses a considerable distance in the next couple days. We are on a good school of Walleye right now, but want to be prepared to hit a couple new areas if the bite slows down out deep.

The weather finally looks a bit warmer for the upcoming week. Temperatures are forecast in the mid-teens to upper twenties for much of the week.
