Coon Rapids police are investigating a deadly home invasion that happened around 11 p.m Monday. Investigators say a 73-year-old homeowner shot and killed an intruder on Bittersweet Street Northwest.

It appears the suspect entered the home by kicking in a back garage door. The homeowner fired a rifle, killing the intruder.

The homeowner believes there may have been a second suspect because he thought he heard two voices.

Police say the suspect was not carrying any identification.

The Coon Rapids Police Department, the Anoka County Sheriff's Department and the coroner are investigating.

Perfect!

Just make sure you shoot 'em dead or they will become the 'victim'.  My buddy is a cop and said if you're gonna shoot, shoot 'em dead.  That way they can't fabricate a story to get you in trouble.

Good Luck!

Darn close to home for me, I petty the intruder who has the nads to stomp my door.

Old Mossy with double odd buck does the trick.

For most crimianals it only takes the sound of the action slamming shut to make em run, but if they keep strolling in then that fatal roar sure makes the rest of them scamper for the appartments they came from.

I heard that story on the news this morning getting ready for work. My response was "good serves`em right". My wife gave me "the look" and asked how I could say that. I just gave her "the look" right back and said he got what he deserves.

They say once you shoot someone in your house, it is a mess and you will most likely move out within a year or so. Don't use too big of caliber because Sheetrock doesn't stop much.

I almost ran into the same situation many years ago while still living at my parents house.  While sitting in the livingroom watching tv (lights off), I noticed an odd sound in another room.  So I go off to investigate-without turning the lights on.  I looked out the window and saw a shadow alongside the house walking low to the ground towards the fron door.  So I rushed to make sure the front door was locked, and turned off the TV.  Then I grabbed the 12 gauge and loaded it up.  The only door that wasn't locked was the garage door.  So off to the garage I went and waited.  Sure enough the lil chit came around and lifted the garage door up about a foot or so.  But being an old door-it made a helluva racket-so he lowered it and left.  The adrenaline was surging through me, as I watched him sneak over to the neighbors house.

I immediately called the police, and told them what was going on.  Then I called my neighbors-who weren't exactly thrilled to have me calling them at 2 am or so.  The lil chit must've heard their phone ring and took off-but only down a couple of houses.  The cops did end up catching him later as well as recovering a bunch of stolen goods he had in his van down the street.

So as far as I'm concerned-the elderly man had every right to protect him and his home!  I only hope he doesn't suffer some trama from knowing he killed someone.  He shouldn't as a waste of skin really doesn't count as "someone".

One note of safety I would like to point out though.

Make sure it isn't a loved one who forgot thier key!!!

Always identify the target first, it only takes a few seconds for the brain to decide friend or intruder!!

And I do agree it makes a very bad mess not to mention the thought that there was a dead person laying on the floor while the cops investigate.

That smell of blood doesn't go away to fast.

It's happened to me. I returned home to find my home completely wrecked. All my firearms stolen, money, jewelry, etc.. They even went through my kids things! They stole a completely full 5 gallon bucket of pennies!!  The worst thing stolen was a knife collection that my grandfather put together over 40 years of managing a Western Auto and trading knives over all that time. It was willed to me and I will never see them again.

So......you better believe I'm happy how this one turned out!!
