HUNTING: Board OKs plan to end October hunt

By Kevin Naze • For Wisconsconsinoutdoorfun.com • April 28, 2011

The state Natural Resources Board has approved a DNR plan to eliminate the October hunt this fall and allow hunters in the CWD zone to target their first buck without having to tag an antlerless deer first.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin Bowhunters Association president Mike Brust said the group supports legislative efforts to make permanent the elimination of earn-a-buck rules and October antlerless gun deer hunts.

• Wild turkey hunters in many areas are seeing more jakes than they did last year, a sign of a better nesting season in 2010. Hens are abundant in ag areas, though, making it difficult to lure a gobbler away. A lot of successful hunters are setting up along travel, feeding, strutting and roosting routes, then waiting them out.
Take a kid hunting and fishing... It'll be the best thing for generations to come.
