Ice in Alex

Has anyone been on any lakes in Alex. lately?,,,I was just wanting to know how many inches of ice there is any where up there.

not lately, but i'll have some reports next monday.  I am guessing since they didn't ahve any ice yesterday that they will not have fishable ice until sometime next week.

Lake Vermont a lil north of Alexandria has about 2" of ice on it.  As far as other lakes-I haven't ventured out to find out-too chickenchit!  Hopefully come Monday I'll have a better report on area lakes.  BTW-I'm 20 miles west of Alex.  so I don't know how good the reports will be for what lakes you are looking for.   ::)

There were 2 portables on Lake Osakis on Sat. 12/2/06 I don't however know how thick the ice was.  Personally I'm waiting a few more days-at least!

lookd to be a spear house on little ballclub yesterday morning.
I dont think you have to go far to find fishable ice here in Itasca county.

5 houses were on the chain of lakes by richmond today

minnewaska has 5 to 7 inches of ice... guys are hitting the eyes now.

Lake osakis is completely froze over with ice ranging from an inch on the North End to some of the shallow bays having up to five.  It was a very spotty freeze up this year, so ice conditions will greatly vary for quite some time.

Lake Carlos has about 7-9'' on the north bay ..

the ice teamers will be there all weekend check them out if your looking for something diff..

EDIT: the south half of the lake was open last week so please be carefull..

Well I waited (10 days to be exact) and I hit my lil honey hole.  There is 8" of ice there (as of now).  I'll be keeping a close eye on it in the days to come.  Here are some of the results of my 1st trip of the year taken tonight
They ranged from 16"-20"-perfect eaters!

Hey woody we'll have to finally hook up. I don't think were too far apart. I am going to alex tommorrow to get x-mas shoppin done but on the way there and back I might have to check on some lakes. Maybe even try harassing a few fish.

Um, I dunno how to say this w/o sounding like a jerk-but the one in the black jacket is my daughter.  Kinda hard to tell with her curly locks hiding under her cap. 

But yeah it felt AWESOME to finally get back on some hardwater!  There was 8" where I was at last night, tonight it's down to 7"  :( with about an inch or so of water on top.  Sure could use a Alberta Clipper about now! 

Griz,  anytime you are going to be up this way give me a shout!  I am new to the lakes around here, so I don't know all the hot spots-but I'm learning!  (Moved here 5+yrs ago, got back into ice fishing 2 yrs ago)

Looks like starting next fall ill proly be new to the alexandria area i have to be up there tomorrow for a physical assessment test for law enforcement. I think i might be enrolling in the law enforcement program at Alex.

I went up to Amelia today for some spearing. Got out on the lake to where I'd planned on spearing and realized I'd forgot my chair at home. Oh well I'd just have to kneel and stand. So I augered my spearhole  and set up the house. Everything was set until I got to the point where I needed to tie my decoy up. I forgot my spearing box at home too. So no harness or pin or red and white, just my spear.To make a long story short I ended up angling with minnows that were too big for my hooks and the fish just came in like freight trains and stole them all. If they wouldn't have come in so hard maybe I could still have gotten a shot with the spear. Oh well some days.

Where I was there was ten inches of ice. A guy 1/4 mile away said he was on 4".

Yesterday I was just feedin em so they'd know where to come today.

Me an the ol goat went out today. Got our limit including one good one. Seen a few more too but was busy fumbling with cookies, peanuts or getting a line ready to angle. Also seen a few eyes but they didn't want much to do cept look at my offerings.
