A link to a story about a tribe who recieved a permit to kill 2 bald eagles per year for religious purposes. I'm sorry but I call b.s. on this one.

I heard this on the radio this morning.

My religion calls for me to shoot cormorants, seaguls, and pelicans.  Where do i get my permits?

I am for letting them get rid of as many of them viscious killing machnes as they want. There are too many of them around and they can really devastate the populations of grouse and pheasant and whatever else is around.

Natives can decimate walleye resources, can kill Eagles, and now Jim Zorn of GLIFWC wants to stop nonnatives from taking wolves...  This garbage needs to end- Join Casstoday.com

There are plenty of eagles around, although obviously not major predators of game birds, they do take a wide variety of oddball critters...I regularly check out the webcams on these eagle nests, and lots of squirrels, what appeared to be a groundhog, small rodents like voles are common, fish, and of course some birds, but very few that I have seen.

I see no issue with taking of eagles, but find it rediculous that it would only be allowed for Indians.

do they taste like chicken? only reason to kill one would be to eat it.
If a gun kills people then I can blame a pen for my misspells?

No it is not sarcasm.  How can anyone think one animal can be protected at all costs regardless of the demise of another?  Have you ever been on a lake and heard a Loon sream and holler when an eagle is in flight?  The loons that take up nesting on a piece of water that is also home to Eagles do have a normal brood hatch but only the adults birds make it to fall because the little ones are devoured. Keep count once. The Bald Eagle is not sacred it like all other species need to be managed.

I am going to respectfully disagree with you on the "managing of eagles" yet I do agree with you on maintaining/managing certain wildlife species.

I think some of us are forgetting that this bird is a symbol of our nation, and should nevrr be killed by the hand of man.......period

lets look a little closer at this.
Same scenario but put into todays world. Congress backed by the anti hunting lobby passes a law that makes the whitetail deer the national mammal. It is now illegal to posess even a set of antlers. Could deer overpopulate and over browse their food source? Could they create a monumental highway danger?
I would never allow someone to disrespect the American flag in my presence or leave their cap on during the national anthem so do not insinuate any anti American sentiment on my part.
I would have sided with Benjamin Franklin and had the wild turkey be the national bird instead of the predatory opportunistic killing machine eagle.
A couple eagles a year for ceremonies is not gonna hurt the population.
I have been on some lakes that seem to have an eagle in every tree. In areas where there is a resident overpopulation of Bald Eagles then yes they should be thinned but not endangered.

Ken  the reason Benny didnt want the bald eagle wasnt cause it was a "Predatory opportunistic killing machine"  but because most of the time they are Carrion eating, theaving birds.  Most of their diet is already dead stuff like floating fish, roadkill, gutpiles and the rest is usually stolen from Fish catching Ospreys!   I did watch a adult bald eagle catch a goose once but it was wounded and froze in a pond!  Ive seen them chasing geese hundreds of times. Turkeys are kind of dumb though!  Not sure my vote would be for them either!

The eagle population is not my problem. My beef with this whole thing is it it illegal for anyone else to even possess a feather. IDC WHO YOU ARE THE TAKING OF A BALD EAGLE IS ILLEGAL. That goes for EVERYONE in my book.
