Hey Guys,

I just moved here from Ohio. I had some great times in Ohio hunting with my brother and some of my best friends. Moved up here to Blaine in Anoka County for a job opportunity and missed out on the duck season but wanted to get started on early planning for next year. Any pointers you might have would help. I have access to a canoe and a 18ft john boat with motor and Blind.

I'm not looking for your secret spot just some info to get pointed in the right direction so I can make some great memories of hunts here in MN. I will hunt lakes, rivers, public private, clubs.

Any suggestions? I wouldn't mind getting out for some Goose this year.

Welcome aboard Bosco, as for areas to hunt there are many to chose from.

First off get hold of a DNR map showing the public hunting areas around the state.Gander Mountain for one has them.

One of those large red and white Gazette's are very helpfull as well, they sell for around $20.

Then chose a destination and head out to scout some time in late August.

The farther west you go the better the duck hunting will be for the most part, but the river valley area is prime to.

If you like traveling North , try the Aggazi's area by International Falls, it is a massive wild life management area that can support a lot of hunters.

Local to Blaine there is the Carlos Avery WMA, but it gets hit REAL hard in the early season.
In fact I personally won't hunt there until late or mid week!

Welcome Bosco. Not a waterfowler myself so I am probably no help to you. I do know a guy that I used to work with that was always hunting Carlos Avery...he went to the pool just east of Stacy. I know he had a lot of success there but the best time were late season and mid-week.

Thats all I got.....good luck! ;)

Thanks for the input. I will get one of those maps from Gander and start scouting early.

If there is any other input out there I'd love to hear it. I am really glad I found this site. We have one similar to this back in Ohio and it was a great way to meet people and discuss successful hunts and hunting tips. You will see more posts from me in the future.

there's a lot of river back waters around hastings and redwing and in between that can be hunted too.  and for sure do the eraly and late season goose hunting.  Just find some promisign fields where the geese are working and start door knocking.  someone has got to eventually say yes.
If a gun kills people then I can blame a pen for my misspells?
