So after you are done with that idea here is what I do and have been doing for years. Remove all brush piles and leaves, keep broken branches picked up. For the dogs use a monthly treatment and do a tick check several times a day. There are several brands of yard spray then you can apply using your garden hose. Do this every month and concentrate along the grass to tree line and spray around flower beds and decks. I also spray up into trees as far as I can reach, this really keeps the ticks down and a couple of bottles is enough to take me through the season.

The two that I have had success with are ENFORCER-Flea Spray and MAXIDE Insect Killer, both sold at Menards in a spray bottle that you can attach to your garden hose for broadcast spraying.
