              8/18/12  Area fishing reports :fishing:

LEECH LAKE: The big northerns are on the chew and the big walleyes won’t be far behind. Northerns can be caught in the cabbage scattered throughout the bays and you might run into a bonus muskie. For walleyes, the breaklines have still held the best numbers of keepers. Lindy rigs and crawlers and leeches have produced the best numbers the last couple weeks. Fourteen to 22 feet of water been the most productive depths, deeper on calm days and shallower when the wind is crankin.

GULL LAKE: Gull Lake has produced some great multi-species action over the last few weeks with walleyes showing themselves to be a bit inconsistent. Bigger bass have been in 14-22 feet of water with spinner baits and jig worms producing the most. Northerns can be had with lindy rigs and pike suckers fish deeper from 17-24 feet of water. As fall approaches, the walleyes will begin to feed more heavily.

WHITEFISH CHAIN: Walleyes and Northerns have been going on Upper Whitefish in 11 to 13 feet with Lindy rigs and redtails or creek chubs. Focus on main lake points for the most consistent action.

LAKE MILLE LACS: For walleye your best bet for catching some fish is to get out early in the morning. Run some spinner rigs out on the flats with crawlers or minnows. By 10 a.m. the fishing slows down for the afternoon. Leadcore fishing is still producing some fish but you have to put your time in. The fishing is typical for August, put in your time and you will catch some fish. The perch are starting to move in on the points with walleyes mixed in. Look for fish in 25 feet of water during the day. Seguchie point has been a good area for the perch.

Small mouth bass fishing is still good. Look for fish on Garrison Reef, Myr Mar and Browns and Seguchie Points. Tube jigs and Sinking minnows are always effective methods for small mouth. Some call it cheating but leeches work as well as anything. The northern pike bite has been fairly consistant. Look for fish on the outside of the weed lines in Garrison Bay, or by the Wealthwood Public Access. There is a nice weed line that runs for a mile in each direction of the access.
