I have never speared myself but have sat in a few different houses and it made me think of deer hunting.
What are must haves other than the spear?  Any basic advise would be assume.   How much can I expect to spend and where is a good place to do one stop shopping?
Anything that is free is worth saving up for.

You need a bigger hole in the Ice,  ;D chain saw work good but you must put the chain on backwards, you all need a decoy red and white work good, and a sucker harness  ;D for live bait,

just do not to forget to tie the speared off to the house, It is best to run one live decoy and one decoy so two rattle wheels , the best place is a lake that as pike in it  ;D Best in 9' or less,

Now I have decoys in fact I was give some away in the fishing challenge so you may win one if not I would sell you one for 10 buck I thing they sale for 25

i am an avid spearchucker. i ve cut holes with a plain chisel chain saw and auger. i now us

e an auger for the 4 corners and use an ice saw to connect the holes. ice tongs are a must. a snow shovel with holes in it to clean out the ice. of course a darkhouse a nice heater spear decoys and wild is right red and white to start and you can expand from there. u use an old bait casting reel so when them nords come flying in they wont teat the line then you can reel it back in.

personnally i tie the spear rope to my leg but to each his own.

any more questions feel free to fire them off!!!!!!!!!
