Fishing on Lake of the Woods- LOW Tourism

The water temperature is down to the low 40's this week, which kicks off the second shiner run. On the Rainy River there is lots of trophy and eater walleye action from the Gap to Birchdale. Try a 1/2 oz jig in 13 feet of water by Wabanica Church, the Baudette Airport, Hattie's Hole, Clemenston Bay and around Frontier Access. Anchor and jig with a minnow or frozen shiner using bright colors like pink, gold, and chartreuse. Lots of smallmouth bass and sturgeon action reported in deeper pockets.

Still plenty of action on the lake this week. Mornings have been great for walleye in 17-23 or 25-28 feet in Lighthouse Gap, 4 Mile Bay, Zippel Bay, Long Point, and a few reports up at Knight Island. Anchor and jig slowly with 3/4 oz jigs tipped with live minnows. Fish are biting light this week and there are trophy walleye suspended a foot and a half up to 4 feet off bottom.

Up at the NW Angle, good fishing continues into the Fall.  In between the diver ducks, anglers are catching good numbers of walleyes.  South of Oak Island and near Falcon Island are all producing, primarily jig and minnow.  Muskies are coming trolling larger baits adjacent to rock points.  More info and Fall specials on lodging at www.LakeoftheWoodsMN.com
