I have had over 50 calls already this morning about the tragidy, just out of cove bay. But after hearing from so many of you already this morning and having the story grow to 4 people dieing in this Tragidy. I felt that it is only rite that, you should know what I know. I do not have all of the details as of yet, but we do know he was a local guy driving to his fish house after dark out of cove bay, when the truck went down. His brother found him yesterday morning. What a true shame. It does not have to be this way, as I have been saying all season, be very careful gentelman, no matter where you go out of. We are marginal at best with the ice this year, only having 18 inches. I will keep you updated as soon as we know more. I hate this situation for all of us.

Rock, go by your guts and never mind what the others think.
I would rather do without a whole seasons buisness than invite people out into an iffy situation just so I can make the mortgage payment.

this is minnesota, we have to get back to normal sooner or later?
two years in a row like this is unheard of.
global warming? maybe, but I know these six week winter seasons have got to be getting old.

best wishes to the family.

I just posted about a truck that went in by trying to cross a pressure ridge on bowstring lake north of grand rapids two nights ago.
good chance I was a half mile away at the time. I came upon the ridge and decided to head east to try to get around the end. he went to the west. didn't sound like he was hurt. he went in in six feet of water. he had to be pretty close to shore.

most likely with the mishap in cove bay, there was some sort of situation like current or a break in the ice that he ran accross.
once it's to late, it doesnt matter what the cause, except to warn others and hopefully keep them out of a potentialy bad situation.

keep us posted
take a kid hunting and fishing!!

This guy died because of his own stupidity!!! Now dont get me wrong, Its a terrible thing that has happened and my condollences go out to his family and friends, BUT, he was out there driving really fast and hitting his emergency break to do donuts and hit the ice heave and flipped into open water. I dont mean to sound rude but anyone who knows anything about driving on ice especially on mille lacs should know better! REMEMBER THAT ICE IS NEVER SAFE!!! BE AWARE OF THE CONDITIONS AND DONT SPEED!!
