ok i hit a 140+ deer with a less then stellar shot. the story goes like this

i left the stand 15 minutes early to go check the alfalpha field to do some MRI(most recent info) the deer have been using it very heavily. one particular deer has been rubbing alot. rubs and scrapes. anyways i left the stand and got to the edge of the field on the trail. 2 does and a small buck were in the front half and seen me as i crossed to the creek that seperates the 2 fields. 2 deer where WAY off so they didnt get spooked, a quick check with the binos and it was 2 bucks, and one was BIG, and they were heading right to me, they stopped about half ways for the big one to refresh the scrape and they spared for 3 seconds. then continued on there way right to me. i had to kneel because the creek and grass wasnt tall enough for me, i seen him coming and i drew. took him 30 seconds to get to my lane and he posed at 22 yards. i had a hard time seeing threw my peep sight, but as soon as i was able to get it decent i let the arrow fly, just as i released he wheeled around and the arrow struck him straight chest, he mule kicked and took off into the woods. due to my excitement and terrible mistake i only waited 5 minutes to go to the spot to look for my arrow, i heard him blow and take off. so i had bumped him. i waited another hour and started to look. i found my arrow, well half of it. not a terrible amount of blood but enough to know hes hurting, and hurting bad. the blood is bright red, which im hoping it is good. anyway have this kind of shot actually work out?

Bright red blood is good.  Might be only one lung.  Might have been a different deer blow at you.  your deer might have already been dead.  Wait till morning and go and find your trophy.

good luck sleeping :moon:

Might want to sit in your truck and listen for coyotes.

Take it slow in the morning.

Acouple years ago when my daughter shot a deer at deadeyes.  We pulled out and ate supper and then when out after 4 hours.  We bumped the deer after tracking for an hour.  We pulled out again and waited til morning.  Much easier and found the dead deer real close to where we had bumped it the night before.  I don't think I slept more than an hour.

I already feel sick to my stomach the way it is. Will be a restless night. But a good 16-20 inches of arrow broke off in his chest, so I'm hoping it hit vitals

Sounds like there is plenty of arrow to get the vitals.  I would bet its lungs too - bright red blood is a good thing, and if there is no thru and thru, there probably wont be a lot of blood anyways.
Your arrow is plugging up the hole.
The last buck I shot with my bow, the angle was so heavy that I thought I just stuck him in the shoulder, he just walked away like nothing had ever happened.  Then after a few steps, he wobbled and fell, and never got up.  Walked 20yds and that was it.
Good luck in the morning - I have no doubt you will find him!

dakids is right, I about the "blow" being from another deer.  First it would be rare for a mature buck to "blow" and second even less likely for a wounded buck to blow.  Good luck on finding the deer.

Hunting is not life and death. It is more important than that.
