Tire pressure?

  I started thinking about this the other day when my low air pressure gauge for one of my tires went off.  I started thinking about the increase or decrease of traction on ice or deep snow and how tire pressure would affect it.   In deep snow for instance would letting some air out of your tires change the pound/square in enough to make a difference?  I would think higher tire pressure on glare ice would give a person more traction.  After getting stuck so many times last winter I am trying to contemplate every angle on traction since chains can not be used on my tires.

For traction in loose sand mud etc.It should be a wide tire with low pressure.In snow a narrow tire with higher pressure.Why ? I dont know I have done it in sand on beaches and low pressure works there. Snow??Thats what I have read.But whatever tire is on the car or truck doesn't get changed out for winter tires just run em at 35lbs & 33 instead of 30 truck an 28 car.

I would be very cautious about letting air out of your tires on lakes. I think mostly you just want to avoid the bigger drifts.

   18 inchers on a Silverado.  There is an apparent clearance issue so they are very clear in the owners manual about no chains allowed.
