   Considering going, have not gone for a couple of years.  I am considering  getting an electric ice auger, possibly an ION or Strikemaster.   Anyone been using either one, appreciate your comments.

Ive got a friend that uses a Ion and loves it.  The new ones have reverse that is very important in a electric auger.  I have been using Dewalt drills for the last 6 years for ice under 24" in my snobear.   My friend made me a attachment to add to the strikemaster auger to lengthen it with a plastic attachment to attach to the hand grip on the drill.  Last winter I bought a Kluge auger, use is on a dewalt 20 volt hammer drill, can get 20 holes off a battery.  Kluge ( now owned by Vexilar) recommends a Milwaukee 18 volt hand drill.   Get a K drill and a good hammer drill you can use in the summer.  Lightest set up there is.  The K drill has a float on em incase it comes off the drill.

No such thing... only in Minnesota!!  Scheels had a small show in Nov... not as good as thorne brothers do in Sept.   YOu guys have both the blaine show and the St. Paul that is the biggest icefishing show in US I believe.

  I have a wheeled house which is why I am considering an electric ice auger.  I heard both plus and negatives about the ION. Some reports I have seen is there blades dull quick.   I have seen adds to use electric drills on auger attachments and having an 18 volt Dewalt drill this sounds like a more cost effective approach if this is a good combination.  Having a house generally in one spot I want a chipper blade style opposed to a lazer style blade.  I heard electric drills tend to be slower than gas augers.

Check out the Ice Gator, alot of power and many holes drilled on one charge.
I have an older one (3 years) and they have a new model that looks to be better, (if that's possible) and comes with their auger.
They've always had reverse on them which is a good feature, but used to sell just the powerhead.
I adapted mine for use with a Nils 8 inch auger (they sell adaptors for different augers) and can drill a hole through over 25 inches of ice in less than 10 seconds.

ICe gators have been around for awhile,think thy were one of the first and still seem to be kicking it, Im toying with the SM Big volt, my freind has on and loves it, But you have to pull up to  the house with your truck and run the 10' long cables to you truck batt. or your house batt. kind a pain id think.

I have the Electric Lazer auger and it works well for me. It has the Vexilar battery with extension cable to hook to car/house battery. Not the fastest but will open old holes ok. It has reverse which helps at the bottom of the hole. My batteries are getting old so mostly I use the house battery. The cable is long enough to drill each end of my 9 foot house.
Weight is about the same as a gas auger but no exhaust in the house is a big benefit.
