Anyone use tire chains on their ATV.  I am having a heck of a time getting up a hill to the lake.  It's not a problem in the summer.  Pulling the portable on frozen ground is not working so well.  I realize ATVs are not meant for snow but that's not the issue.  The issue is steepness and traction.  I think chains would solve the problem.  I hope.  It's a pain winching up the steeper parts with the sled on the back.

Really? must be a 4x2 eh? 4x4 wouldn't be an issue, but sounds like you need chains or trade your machine in.

I have chains on 2 older 2x4s,Havent used them much yet, I just got the word I can start riding.Been going 600ft to the mailbox for 2 months. Our 14 inch snow in Nov had me stuck in the slight incline in the private driveway 70ft long then 500ft on a shared unplowed drive,Unplowed unless I plow.Put the chains on and 14 inches a snow I went throung pretty easily.Couple drifts I had to hit bachup then barge through. They do work great!! I got the chains with barbed cross members Cant remember the name??
Recently tried them on the ice a 3/4 mile drive to check some guys spearing, again they dug in and no sliding sideways!! Got mine off ebay for 35 bucks and well worth it!

AFTER DEER HUNTING they automatically go on the wheeler for the ice season. of course a year like last year I park the wheeler and use sleds. but yea there are lotz of wheelers with chains. I'd bet any dealer carry's them. heck I had a guy help me clean out the cabin driveway and he chained up all 4 tires. holy Hannah could he go thru the snow!!!!

I think I will pick some up at 'Fleet Farm tonight.  It is a grizzly 4x4.  The first part of this  hill is really steep.

Save some $$ and cold hands start out with one pair on the rear tires,And yes size matters,Not exact size, but read the lable and know your tire size when you get there. To large can be cut down, to small can be done BUT it takes lots of chitty links that arent as quality as the chains.

A new pair of arctic fox tires will virtually eliminate the need for chains. I wouldn't have believed it either until last winter on my own little rear wheel drive.

Get the V-bar chains. Work much better than regular chains on the ice.
