Two rescued from partially submerged truck on Leech Lake

BEMIDJI -- Two people were rescued from a partially submerged vehicle on Leech Lake.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to the call at 7:49 a.m. that a vehicle was partially through the slush and ice in the area of an ice heave near Sand Point on Leech Lake, according to a release from the sheriff's office.

Sheriff's deputies and the Walker Fire Department responded and found a full-size Ford F-150 stuck in the slush. Two people were in the bed of the truck, but could not safely leave the vehicle because of thin ice. The Walker Fire Department used its hovercraft to rescue the individuals, who were not injured. Workers were able to tow the truck from the ice, officials said.

Law enforcement and emergency officials urge everyone to use caution on all area lakes. Although, recent colder temperatures have helped ice conditions, there are still many vulnerable areas around ice heaves, rivers and spring and all ice should never be considered 100 percent safe.

This is really not news worthy. A truck got stuck in slush and the newsies portray it as partially submerged?
