Adrian Peterson will move forward with the Vikings on a restructured contract.


The team announced Tuesday it has reworked the final three years of the running back's deal by mutual agreement but did not disclose the new terms.



"I appreciate the Vikings for working together on this restructured contract, which provides additional security for me but also allows opportunities for me to further prove my value to the team and within the NFL," Peterson said in a release. "It was important for me to continue my career in Minnesota, and I cannot wait to get on the field in front of Vikings fans again."

Peterson was due to make $12.75 million this season, with a $15.4 million salary cap hit. Chicago's Matt Forte has the next-highest 2015 base salary for a running back at just over $7 million.

According to Yahoo Sports and NFL Media, the restructured deal will result in lower base salaries for Peterson over the next three years but higher guarantees.
