Vikings RT Loadholt suffers torn Achilles

 :reporter; ........
MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Vikings have a big hole to fill on their offensive line.

 :coffee: more ......
Right tackle Phil Loadholt left Saturday’s exhibition against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being injured on the second play, and preliminary tests showed a torn left Achilles tendon, a person with knowledge of the injury told USA TODAY Sports.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to disclose details on the injury, which if the tests are correct would sideline Loadholt for the season.

Loadholt, 29, hadn’t missed a start in more than five years before a torn pectoral muscle sidelined him for the last five games in 2014. He’s signed through next season, when he’s due $6 million, including a $500,000 roster bonus that’s due in March.

T.J. Clemmings, a rookie fourth-round pick out of Pittsburgh, took over at right tackle after Loadholt’s injury.
